Taxis, Uber and private hire at Glasgow Airport (GLA)

Independent Glasgow Airport travel guide · not affiliated with Glasgow Airport.

A taxi from Glasgow Airport to the city centre is typically around £20 to £35, taking 20 to 25 minutes. The official rank sits directly outside the terminal doors and is run by Glasgow Taxis, open 24 hours a day with no pre-booking needed. Uber is available too, from the rideshare zone in Car Park 2. Prices checked August 2026.

The official rank

Glasgow Taxis runs the airport rank, and it is the largest licensed taxi operator in the UK outside London. As you leave arrivals you walk onto a covered forecourt, and the rank is immediately outside the terminal doors. It operates 24/7, 365 days a year, so you can walk up and take the next car without booking ahead. Cars here are metered on the Glasgow city licensed tariff.

Metered fares and what they mean

The meter starts with a flag-fall of about £3.30 during the day (06:00 to 23:00), rising to about £4.40 after 23:00, then adds roughly £0.75 per kilometre. Those figures are third-party estimates of the council tariff, so treat the exact breakdown as indicative and check the meter as you travel. In practice, the fare to the city centre usually lands at about £20 to £35, with some longer or busier trips quoted higher.

Pre-booking and Meet and Greet

You can also pre-book Glasgow Taxis rather than take the rank. Pre-booked airport pickups do not use the forecourt: they meet you at Car Park 2 (the multi-storey), Zone D, a short covered walk from arrivals. A Meet and Greet service, where the driver meets you at arrivals and helps with luggage, costs £35 on top of the standard fixed fare and needs 24 hours' notice.

Uber and ride-hailing

Uber operates at Glasgow Airport 24 hours a day. It does not collect from the forecourt rank: pickups use the designated rideshare zone in Car Park 2, Zone D, a short walk from arrivals, so follow the in-app directions and the signage. FreeNow operates in Glasgow and would use the same private-hire zone, though airport-specific pickup is worth confirming in the app. Availability of some other apps varies, so if you rely on one, check it covers the airport before you land.

When a taxi beats the alternatives

If you are two or more people with luggage, a taxi often costs about the same per head as the bus once you have paid separate fares, and it takes you to the door rather than a city stop. It is also the simplest choice late at night. If you are travelling solo and light, the cheaper option is the 500 Airport Express, which is £11 single and runs 24 hours a day. If someone is dropping you off by car instead, compare the drop-off charges first, because the forecourt is not free.
